Then in April 2004 I was unexpectedly diagnosed with leukemia. When I asked the medical specialists what would have caused this imbalance in my blood to occur, they could not answer my question. All they could offer me was some supposed relief from my symptoms. I vowed to find the answer myself.I set up a research facility, which I called the Self-Healing Education Center, and proceeded to delve into all manner of things about which I had known absolutely nothing. This has been an amazing voyage of discovery. I have used myself as the guinea pig. Today I am far stronger and have a great deal more energy than I did a few years ago.
In the course of my research I realized that just as each drop of water is the microcosm of the ocean, so too is each individual person a microcosm of humanity. For people to be sustainable they must be self-regulating and self-healing, wholly responsible for their own being and doing. For a community to be sustainable, it must be composed of sustainable individuals. Just as a human body is only as strong as its weakest organ, so is a community only as viable as its weakest member. I realized that we have the power to change humanity one person at a time – our own self. Just as a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, so does our journey to a healthy planet begin with us taking responsibility for our own health. As more and more of us take on the responsibility of healing ourselves at the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social levels, this will affect the community in which we live. »
