Why the Self-Healing Education Center?
I have known for many years now that my mission in this lifetime was to assist in the transition from our current system of nation states (often pitted one against the other) to a new global political order that will work for the highest good of all life. I knew that the key to this vision was sustainable communities. True power always lies at the local level. Human beings are tribal people –none of us can thrive living on our own. For a community to be sustainable, the people who live there must be able collectively to meet the totality of the needs of every member of the community in a way which will allow the community and the planet to thrive.
In 1992 I founded a non-profit corporation, Earth First Construction, to educate people about green building techniques. That same year I purchased a property in Santa Barbara, California which became the headquarters for Earth First. I designed and built a home - office showcasing green building techniques available at that time. In more recent years we have transformed this property into an urban, organic, fully self-sufficient farm called Earth First Farm. In 1999 I participated in the creation of Conscious Evolution, an organization to which I still belong today. In 2000 I co-founded the Santa Barbara Regional Energy Alliance, which dealt in alternative energies. None of these, however, allowed me to achieve the totality of my mission. »
