We begin by being respectful of ourselves and others - including the planet, by eating only those foods that serve our own bodies, by drinking clean water, by creating a healthy environment around ourselves. In building her home using passive solar design techniques, Margaret incorporated recycled materials and energy efficient appliances, seeking always to reduce the carbon footprint as much as possible. She also incorporated a whole house water treatment system including a greywater system to irrigate the land.
Margaret realized following the 2008 financial crisis, that we were all becoming vulnerable to the control and coercion being exercised by the major players of the global financial system. She decided to become as independent as possible of that system and to do it in a way that could be emulated by others. She installed solar panels as a way to move to energy independence and, in collaboration with Leif Skogberg, she drew up a permaculture plan for her property.
